At this point in the semester, you've read through the five units of the CSI Arson investigation and have collected mounds of information… some of it relevant and some not so relevant. It is your job for this assignment to sift through all that evidence and discern the pertinent details from that which is not important in determining "who dunnit?"
The final report you submit revealing “who dunnit!” combines much more than your own opinion, as you will be required to apply what you have learned from the course as well as analyze, synthesize, and evaluate the information gathered to draw your conclusion. For that reason, I see this assignment as a capstone learning experience which encourages you to think critically, develop a theory and justify your theoretical thoughts as applied to this fictional scenario as well as some professional issues of management that you're likely to encounter in recreation and leisure services.
The primary purpose of this final report is for you to articulate your answer to the following question, was the fire intentionally set or was it an accident?
You are to use all of the information you have learned in class and in the on-line units to determine what happened. Your report will be evaluated upon the logic you use to formulate your response, your theory design, and citation of the facts to support your theory. The critical thinking skills you use to solve the mystery in this scenario are the same skills you'll be called upon as a manager to solve challenges and problems in your workplace.
You are encouraged to refer (cite class discussions and/or notes) to class discussions or notes to support your response to the question. The report should be summarized in a 2-4 pages, typed and double-spaced.
This assignment is worth 20 points, and is due Wednesday, March 8, 2006 in class.
If you need to revisit any of the crime scenes you may go to the crime scene investigation.
